Stick worms have been called by many different names and are produced by most lure companies. The stick worm is arguably one of the most popular and versatile lures in any angler’s arsenal.

Stick worms such as the Beat’n Stick can be used all year, and in all weather conditions. They can be fished slow, fast, deep, or shallow, and can be rigged a number of different ways.

Texas Rigged

If you need to get into some heavy cover and do not want to get snagged, a Texas rig is the way to go.

The Texas rig consists of a bullet weight, an offset hook, and the plastic bait of your choice. You can also add a bead in between the weight and hook to give the setup a little bit of noise.

Carolina Rig

Carolina rigs have been used by every angler at one point or another, and for a good reason they work. A Carolina rig is similar to the Texas rig, except it uses a leader in-between the weight and plastic bait. They are a great choice for targeting bass that are holding on a hump or point and cover a lot of water quickly.

The Carolina rig consists of a swivel, a bullet weight, a glass bead, and an offset hook.

Wacky Rig

The wacky rig is the most unnatural rig I have ever seen! Don’t let the look fool you; the wacky rig is as powerful as it is unnatural and will get you that big bass. All you need for the wacky rig is a wide gap offset hook and to find the center of the bait. Once in the water the stick worm will have an amazing amount of action and look as if it is almost breathing.

Drop Shot

Drop shots are a great finesse tactic for catching bass; they work from shallow water all the way to the deep points in the lake. The Beat’n Stick is a great choice for a drop shot. Cutting them down to 3″ and rigging them on a straight shank dropshot hook with a weight just big enough to keep in contact with the bottom suspended approximately 12 inches below the hook. The Beat’n Stick can be hooked weedless like the Texas-rig, or like the wacky rig!

Stick worms are a staple in any angler’s tackle box, although sometimes they get overlooked for the flashy crankbaits and creature baits. There is a reason that they are probably one of the most sold lures for bass fishing, because they work! You can use them all year around, even in the fall months when bass tend to be more aggressive.
